Elegant Dress Watches

There’s no denying the beauty and quintessential quality of a classically styled dress watch — preferably one in solid gold with a simple, time-only dial.

Piaget Ladies 'Lapis Lazuli' Dress Watch ($3,850)

Piaget Ladies 'Lapiz Lazuli' Dress Watch - IN THE SHOP

A relatively affordable entry point into the stone-dial trend is this handsome piece from Piaget. Dating to the 1970s, it consists of a round, ultra-thin 28mm white gold case paired to a simple lapis lazuli dial with a white gold dauphine handset. Powered by a hand-wound movement, it embodies the elegant refinement of Piaget’s 20th-century output.

Chanel Boyfriend ($8,770)

For a slightly more modern dress watch option, check out this Chanel Boyfriend from the 2020s. Measuring 28mm in yellow gold with a cool stepped bezel and an onyx cabochon crown, it features a milky white guilloché dial with a sub-seconds display and a gold-tone handset, plus a hand-wound, Swiss-made ETA movement and a simple, signed black leather strap.

Cartier Tank Cintrée Ladies ($11,770)

Speaking of the swinging ‘70s, check this out: A vintage Cartier Tank Cintrée ladies’ watch, it features an 18mm yellow gold case in the model’s signature elongated case; an octagonal sapphire cabochon crown; and an acrylic crystal protecting a white ‘Paris’-signed ‘Roman’-numeral dial. Powered by a hand-wound JLC movement, it’s a classic for a reason.

Bold Timepieces

Sometimes a little bit — or a lot! — of whimsy goes a long way. Look to these bold shapes to accent a more subdued outfit or to telegraph your good taste.

Jaquet Droz Lady 8 'Aventurine' ($5,650)

Jaquet Droz Lady 8 'Adventurine' - IN THE SHOP

Very few watches take as dramatic a form as the Lady 8 from Swiss marque Jaquet Droz, whose curvaceous stainless steel case is partially set with diamonds that swirl around an upper lug fitted with lapis lazuli. The “8”-shaped case is likewise set with a lapis lazuli time-telling dial whose hands are powered by the automatic Jaquet Droz cal. 1153 movement.

Gerald Genta Ladies Dress Watch ($7,770)

Gerald Genta Ladies Dress Watch - IN THE SHOP

Dating to the 1990s, this incredible piece from famed watch designer Gérald Genta’s eponymous atelier is anything but subtle — and that’s precisely why it’s so wonderful: Measuring 22mm in yellow gold, it’s paired with an 18K yellow gold ‘bullet’ bracelet, a studded bezel, and a mother-of-pearl dial with luminous hour indices and a chemin de fer minute track.

Bulgari Farfalla 'Butterfly' Tri-Gold ($11,950)

Bulgari Farfalla 'Butterfly' Tri-Gold - IN THE SHOP

Brilliantly shaped like a butterfly, the tri-gold Bulgari Farfalla is a design aficionado's dream. Dating to the 1990s, it’s beautifully executed in yellow, rose, and white gold and fitted with a champagne dial. The ruby cabochon crown, meanwhile, forms the ‘butterfly’s’ head, while a reliable quartz movement provides power and a simple leather strap completes the look.

Sporty Everyday Watches

Day-in, day-out, a stainless steel watch with ample water resistance and a highly legible dial is just the ticket. Truly, you can’t go wrong with one of these sporty pieces.

Seiko Ladies' Pogue ($550)

Seiko Ladies Pogue - IN THE SHOP

This small 28mm cushion-cased, diver-type tool watch is ideal for someone who wants an everyday piece with some ‘70s flair. Somewhat akin to the larger ‘Pogue’ chronograph, it features a wide bezel and short lugs, though it simplifies things via a silvered time-and-date dial and a manually-wound movement, which keeps the case thin.

Bulova Accutron Ladies Watch ($995)

Bulova Accutron Ladies Watch - IN THE SHOP

This wildly cool version of the Bulova Accutron tuning fork watch is a dedicated ladies’ model from the 1970s — we know, because it includes its original "Bulova Accutron for Women" box! Housed in a 35mm steel case and paired to a neat steel bracelet with a signed Bulova clasp, it features a silvered dial whose deeply sloping rehaut, luminous ‘sword’ handset, and day-date display give it a decidedly futurist bent.

Tudor Royal Two-Tone ($3,750)

Tudor Royal Two-Tone - IN THE SHOP

For someone who wants to look chic while living an adventurous lifestyle, this two-tone Tudor Royal is an excellent choice. Housed in a 38mm steel and gold case with an integrated multi-link bracelet and an engine-turned bezel, it features a handsome brown dial with applied ‘Roman’ numeral indices, a luminous ‘baton’ handset, and a date window. Powered by the automatic Tudor Calibre T601, it’s a lovely option for everyday office wear.
