Why We Love it

Some watches tell time. Some watches tell a story. The Harry Winston Premier does both.

Introduced in 1989, the Premier collection quickly became the signature watch line of the famed New York jeweler, translating the glamour and sophistication of Harry Winston's Fifth Avenue salon into wristwatch form. While many brands borrowed from traditional Swiss watchmaking cues, Harry Winston approached design from a different perspective—one rooted in jewelry, architecture, and visual drama.

Nowhere is that more evident than in the case design.

This particular Premier Chronograph, Reference 200-MCA37G, is crafted in 18K yellow gold and features the collection's unmistakable triple-arched lugs, inspired by the entrance to Harry Winston's iconic flagship salon on Fifth Avenue. These architectural elements transform the watch from a simple chronograph into something far more distinctive, giving it a silhouette recognizable from across the room.

The silver dial is equally well considered. Three recessed registers create a balanced tri-compax layout, while oversized stylized Arabic numerals add character without overwhelming the design. A date aperture at 6 o'clock maintains symmetry, and subtle textural contrasts across the dial surface provide depth and visual interest. The result is elegant, slightly theatrical, and unmistakably Harry Winston.

Turn the watch over, and a sapphire display back reveals the automatic chronograph movement within, reminding you that beneath the glamour lies serious Swiss watchmaking pedigree. This is not merely a jewelry house's interpretation of a watch—it's a fully realized luxury chronograph from one of the most celebrated names in luxury.

Fitted to a rich brown alligator strap with a matching yellow gold deployant clasp, the Premier wears with the confidence of a watch that doesn't need to follow trends because it never belonged to them in the first place.

Today, early Harry Winston timepieces remain one of the great underappreciated corners of modern collecting, offering exceptional design, precious-metal construction, and a perspective unlike anything coming from Geneva's more traditional manufactures.

Who else could make a chronograph feel quite this much like a piece of Fifth Avenue architecture than Harry Winston!

Brand Story

+
Founded in New York in 1932, Harry Winston built its reputation as one of the world's most celebrated jewelers, earning the nickname "The King of Diamonds." The maison became synonymous with exceptional gemstones, red-carpet glamour, and an elite clientele that included royalty, celebrities, and collectors. In the late 20th century, Harry Winston expanded into haute horlogerie, bringing the same creativity and uncompromising standards to watchmaking. Today, the brand is admired for combining technical Swiss watchmaking with bold, unmistakable design, producing everything from high jewelry pieces and elegant dress watches to some of the most ambitious high-complication timepieces of the modern era.
