Why We Love it
–The Calatrava has spent more than 90 years establishing the rules for the quintessential Patek Philippe dress watch. The Ref. 6007G seems perfectly happy breaking a few of them.
Introduced in 2023 as a trio of white-gold models distinguished by red, yellow, or blue accents, the 6007G took the traditionally restrained Calatrava in a decidedly sportier direction. This Ref. 6007G-011 is the blue version, and arguably one of the most unexpected Calatravas in the modern catalog.
Its polished 18K white gold case measures 40mm, providing the classical foundation. From there, things get considerably more playful. The ebony-black dial features applied white-gold Arabic numerals filled with luminous material, broad luminous hands, and a date window at 3 o’clock. Bright blue details animate the minute and seconds tracks, including a blue central seconds hand that gives the watch an almost instrument-like quality.
But the centerpiece is exactly that: the center of the dial. Patek gave it a textured “carbon” pattern inspired by motorsport, then repeated the motif on the black calfskin strap. Contrasting blue stitching ties the whole thing together. It’s an unusual vocabulary for a Calatrava, particularly one executed in precious metal, but that tension is precisely what makes the 6007G interesting.
Inside is the self-winding Calibre 26-330 S C, visible through the sapphire caseback. Finished to Patek Philippe standards and bearing the Patek Philippe Seal, the movement offers central seconds, a date indication, and a power reserve of up to approximately 45 hours.
This example is accompanied by a few factory goodies, including its Certificate of Origin, books, signed leather folio, and leather pouch.
The Ref. 6007G-011 may carry the Calatrava name, but it clearly wasn’t interested in becoming another conventional dress watch. Carbon-inspired textures, electric blue accents, luminous Arabic numerals, and white gold shouldn’t necessarily work this well together. Somehow, they do.
