Why We Love it
–Few contemporary watches have become as synonymous with Cartier as the Ballon Bleu. Introduced in 2007, it quickly established itself as one of the maison's modern classics, reimagining Cartier's unmistakable design language through softer curves and fluid proportions. Elegant yet contemporary, the Ballon Bleu proved that Cartier could create a new icon without relying on the angular silhouettes of the Tank or Santos.
Its defining feature is the ingenious crown design, in which the signature blue sapphire cabochon appears to float within an integrated protective arch that subtly interrupts the Roman-numeral minute track. Combined with the rounded case and gently domed crystal, the result is a watch that feels sculptural from every angle while remaining unmistakably Cartier.
This Ref. W69010Z4 is presented in the collection's highly wearable 28mm stainless steel case, fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and the Ballon Bleu's distinctive sapphire cabochon crown. The silver guilloché-style dial showcases Cartier's signature black 'Roman' numerals, blued steel 'sword' hands, and a finely printed chemin de fer minute track, creating a timeless display that has become one of the maison's enduring hallmarks.
Powered by a reliable quartz movement, it is fitted to its original integrated stainless steel bracelet with a concealed double-folding clasp, giving the watch the seamless appearance and exceptional comfort that define the Ballon Bleu collection.
The Ballon Bleu has become a favorite of royalty (Catherine, Princess of Wales!), actors, and collectors alike for good reason. Graceful without feeling delicate and instantly recognizable without being ostentatious, it represents Cartier at its most modern. For those seeking an everyday luxury watch with enduring style, few contemporary designs have proven as universally appealing.
Brand Story

Brand Story
+In 1917, Cartier introduced what would become its defining creation: the Tank. Inspired by the aerial geometry of the Renault FT tanks used during the First World War, Louis Cartier transformed their parallel tracks into the watch's signature brancards, creating a silhouette whose clean proportions have remained virtually unchanged for more than a century. From the elongated Tank Cintrée and refined Tank Louis Cartier to the architectural Tank Chinoise, the collection has evolved into one of the most influential watch families ever made.
Cartier's appeal has always extended far beyond traditional watch collectors. Worn by cultural icons including Rudolph Valentino, Clark Gable, Andy Warhol, Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, its watches have become symbols of timeless style as much as exceptional design.
Beyond the Tank, collections such as the Santos, Panthère, Pasha, Ballon Bleu, and Crash have each become icons in their own right. Today, Cartier occupies a unique place in horology—one of the few maisons equally revered for its jewelry craftsmanship and its extraordinary contribution to the history of watch design.
