Why We Love it
–The Holy Trinity of watch brands: Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.
Generally less understood than either of its respected compatriots, Vacheron Constantin has a legacy of producing some of the very finest high horology complications in history — and some of the loveliest.
The Patrimony line is to Vacheron as the Calatrava line is to Patek Philippe — classic, understated and timeless. This particular Patrimony from the 2000s is a complicated masterpiece: Housed in a 36mm 18K white gold case, it features a sapphire crystal, a signed, 18K white gold crown, a date corrector, and a polished bezel.
Its handsome silver ‘linen’ dial features applied, white gold ‘Roman’ and square indices, a matching white gold ‘feuille’ handset, a date indicator at 3 o’clock, a sub-seconds indicator at 6 o’clock, and a handy power reserve indicator between 10 and 11 o’clock.
This Reference 42700/000G-9019 is powered by the Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1127 (based upon a movement by Jaeger-LeCoultre), a highly finished movement with 45 jewels that has been adjusted to five positions and has a power reserve of 38 hours. Paired to a signed, black crocodile leather strap with an 18K white gold ‘Maltese cross’-style pin buckle, it’s accompanied by its factory goodies.
The early 2000s were an interesting period in watch design, with certain models that have stood the test of time, and some that have not.
This particular VC certainly belongs in the former category!
Brand Story
+
Brand Story
+This expertise carried them through the 19th century, earning gold medals at National Exhibitions and blazing trails in the area of anti-magnetic timepieces. The 20th century saw further achievements, such as the opening of its boutique on the Quai de L’Ile in Geneva, where it still resides today. Even through the Depression and the Second World War, when many watch companies were forced to band together with competitors or else face closure, the manufacture continued to thrive—as it does to this day.
