–Our love for rare and beautiful objects isn't limited to those of the horological variety! In addition to our perpetual treasure hunt for great watches, we cast a wider net into the world of vintage objects, a practice that, since our founding, has yielded a trove of finds we happily share during the holiday season each year.
From vintage clocks to pocket knives, lighters to diving instrumentation, old-world ashtrays to desk sculptures — these are the types of mementos that heavily tug on our nostalgic heart strings and further sate our impulse for preservation and storytelling.
Unfortunately we can't keep them all...
Speaking of which: If you're a fan of U.S. naval history, you're no doubt familiar with the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the world's first nuclear-powered submarine. The second American vessel to carry that name — which is, of course, derived from Jules Verne's famed fictional ship — the Nautilus is docked in Groton, CT, where it receives over 100,00 visitors annually.Â
This Gemaco Bridge playing card set stems from the Nautilus Memorial at the Submarine Force Library & Museum. Embossed with the vessel's current resting place and featuring classic 'nuclear' logo in silver and brown, its dual-deck Bridge format is perfect for whiling away the time on a rainy weekend. (After all, one can only watch The Hunt for Red October so many times...) In excellent condition — in fact, the decks are unused and still wrapped in protective plastic — it deserves a place in the home of a proper Naval history buff!
