Why We Love it

Why We Love it
–A perpetual calendar is like a small computer on your wrist.
Think of it this way: Imagine a watch that keeps track of not only the time, but also the date, the day of the week, and the month, tells you whether it’s a leap year or not, and what the current phase of the moon is. Oh, and one more thing — imagine it does all of this mechanically, using springs and gears, and that you only have to adjust it once every century or so. Crazy, right?
Urban Jurgensen’s stupendous Reference 10 has to be one of the most exquisite QPs we’ve seen in quite some time, with dial finishing comparable to that of Breguet and a movement with finishing that would make a Patek Philippe watchmaker blush. Though its name hasn’t permeated the greater zeitgeist to the same degree as those of the ‘Holy Trinity,’ to those in the know, Urban Jurgensen is horologically legendary.
Housed in a 40mm rose gold case with teardrop lugs, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished, stepped bezel, it features a magnificent, satin silver dial with two styles of guilloché, painted black ‘Roman’ indices, a blued steel ‘observatory’ handset, a moon phase at 12 o’clock, day and month apertures at 9 and 3 o’clock, respectively, and a dual running seconds/date indicator at 6 o’clock.
Powered by the beautifully finished, automatic Urban Jurgensen Calibre P4 movement, the Reference 10 comes paired to a signed, brown alligator leather strap with a signed, 18K rose gold pin buckle. This particular example, dating to 2022, also happens to include its factory goodies.
While we would be the last ones to steer you clear of a more conventional QP, this is a perpetual calendar for the true watch lover, and we can’t recommend it enough. Watch — once you get it on your wrist, it’ll be all but impossible to get it off again!
Brand Story

Brand Story
+concerning mainsprings, thermometers, and more, he later perfected the art of perforating precious stones, which he studied in Geneva.
Over a 20-year period, Jürgensen constructed roughly 20 chronometers. Following his death, his sons Jules-Frederik Jürgensen and Louis Urban Jürgensen continued his work, based in Switzerland and Copenhagen, respectively. Jules Jürgensen, the former’s eponymous brand, became a well known marque in its own right, constructing handsome dress watches and operating until the 1970s.
In 2021, the Urban Jürgensen company was purchased by Finnish watchmaker Kari Voutilainen and a group of investors, who plan to relaunch the notable marque in 2023 in time for the 250th anniversary of Jürgensen’s birth. Given Voutilainen’s pedigree, one can expect extremely high-end pieces from one of the horological world’s foremost minds.
