Why We Love it

If you're one of those people who have searched for an oversized Rolex Day-Date in steel, only to realize that there is no such thing, we feel your disappointment. The combination of functionality, size and material would seem like an obvious choice for the brand with the big crown, but they obviously missed the boat. Fortunately for us, the brand with the Shield provides us with the perfect solution - if you can find one!

'The "Jumbo" sized Reference 7020/0 Tudor Day-Date Oyster Prince was only made for a few years between the late '60s and early '70s, and they are one of the few vintage Tudor models that has managed to slip under the radar of most enthusiasts. With a very small production run, they turn up infrequently on the market, and we're constantly on the lookout. In the past few years we've been able to locate only a handful, all of which have found new homes lightning-fast. And not a single one of those had a blue dial!

When it comes to the characteristics of the 7020/0, there's just nothing not to love.  The steel Oyster Case (made by Rolex, naturally) is sized at 39mm - the same as its Submariner/GMT-Master brethren, making it an ideal size for daily wear and use, with a distinctly masculine feel.  The added functionality of a day wheel at 12:00 ensures this won't be confused with a mere Datejust or Prince Oysterdate, while the steel rotating "Turn-O-Graph" bezel provides an unmistakable sports element.  Without getting all gushy, even on paper this combination of features ensures the 7020/0 a spot on our list of favorite things, and the actual presence on-wrist does not disappoint!  With off-the-shelf ETA internals instead of a Rolex manufacture movement, the watch wears considerably thinner than even its 36mm Rolex counterparts, adding to the already incredible versatility that this model offers.

This particular piece is one of the most beautiful examples of this model that we have yet to encounter.  With an incredibly crisp case, sharp bevels, brilliant blue sunburst dial, light even patina and a nearly flawless bezel, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this watch is brand new. Values on these rare models have proven dynamic over the past few years, and we expect them to continue to rise in value as their appeal is discovered by the community at large.  Don't miss your chance to grab an incredible example before they reach unobtanium status!
