Why We Love it
–While we built our business — and our passion — around vintage watches, it’s doubtful there’s a contemporary collection that better encapsulates the vintage spirit better than Tudor’s Black Bay. And more specifically, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight.
The Black Bay Fifty-Eight takes all that we love about vintage dive watches — and more specifically, vintage Tudor and Rolex dive watches — and boils it down to an absurdly handsome, highly wearable modern timepiece. Originally launched in a black dial with a steel case, Tudor has since expanded the offerings to include offbeat metals such as bronze, solid gold, and even sterling silver!
The particular Black Bay Fifty-Eight we have here, a Reference 79012M, dates to circa the 2020s. Housed in a 39mm bronze case with a sapphire crystal, a bronze, unidirectional dive bezel with a brown insert, and a screw-down, signed bronze crown, it features a luminous, brown vignette dial, applied Arabic and dot indices, a matching ‘snowflake’ handset, and an outer minute track. Powered by the automatic, chronometer-certified Tudor MT5400 movement, it comes paired to a bronze ‘rivet’-style Oyster bracelet with a signed Fliplock clasp featuring a micro-adjust system. At once vintage-inspired while simultaneously highly modern and robust, it even comes with its factory goodies.
If you love the idea of a vintage Tudor or Rolex but don’t want to baby a vintage piece, then take it from us — the Black Bay Fifty-Eight is the watch to buy. And if you’re bronze-curious but weren’t quite ready to take the plunge, well…
This is your opportunity!
Brand Story

Brand Story
+In creating Tudor, Wilsdorf wanted to offer “a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standards of dependability for which Rolex is famous.”
Tudors were in many ways Rolexes in all but name, with the same waterproof Oyster cases and similar styling. However, in order to keep costs down, the brand used off-the-shelf Swiss movements rather than their own in-house calibres. What resulted were watches that were more affordable than Rolexes to the consumer, but still uniformly tough and reliable.
Today Tudor has certainly defeated any impression of being the redheaded stepchild of the Rolex family, and their current timepiece collection — as well as their vintage counterparts — are getting the recognition and respect they most rightfully deserve. From the colorful “Home Plate” chronograph to the complicated Advisor, these models often picked up where Rolex left off, daring to be more bold and playful in their design. And now that the brand has introduced in-house movements while still managing to keep pricing modest, the company is better poised than ever to win the hearts and minds of millions of new watch enthusiasts.
