Why We Love it

From the 1920s through the 1960s, small ladies’ cocktail watches were all the rage.

These delicate timepieces — thin, often crafted in precious metals and paired with integrated bracelets — were designed as much as jewelry as they were instruments for telling time. With their diminutive dials and finely constructed movements, they offered elegance without excess, becoming the perfect accessory for evenings out and formal occasions.

This particular example was retailed by the legendary American jeweler Tiffany & Co. The rectangular case is adorned with round brilliant and tapered baguette diamonds, creating a refined interplay of sparkle and geometry that feels quintessentially Art Deco yet still contemporary.

Beneath the crystal sits a softly patinated silver dial with raised 'dot-and-dart' indices and a slender steel 'pencil' handset, restrained details that allow the diamond-set case to shine without overwhelming the design.

Light, graceful, and beautifully proportioned, it captures the glamour of an era when watches were designed to accompany candlelight, champagne, and an elegant evening on the town.

Brand Story

+
Tiffany & Co. has always been more than a jeweler—it’s a cultural touchstone, a shorthand for American elegance shaped on Fifth Avenue and broadcast to the world. Founded in 1837 as a purveyor of stationery and fancy goods, the brand quickly distinguished itself by an unwavering commitment to refined taste and impeccable craftsmanship. By the late 19th century, Tiffany had become the nation’s arbiter of beauty, influencing everything from decorative arts to bridal traditions, even helping define the visual language of modern luxury.

What sets Tiffany apart is its talent for balancing timelessness with the spirit of the moment. Its designers—Louis Comfort Tiffany, Jean Schlumberger, Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso—each brought a distinct, almost artistic point of view to the house, reshaping jewelry design in ways that resonated far beyond the vitrines. Their work made Tiffany synonymous with individuality, creativity, and a kind of effortless sophistication that feels as relevant today as it did decades ago.

Tiffany’s engagement with horology only strengthened this identity. Throughout the 20th century, the brand collaborated with Swiss manufacturers to create elegant watches that borrowed the clarity and proportion of its jewelry. These private-label timepieces, often produced with Universal Genève or Patek Philippe, mirrored Tiffany’s aesthetic code: clean lines, impeccable finishing, and a sense of New York refinement measured in minutes and hours.

Today, Tiffany & Co. remains an icon because it never strays from its core philosophy. Whether expressed through a diamond solitaire, a bone cuff, or a slim gold Tank-style watch, the brand continues to embody the promise of elevated everyday beauty—pieces that feel personal, modern, and enduring all at once.
