Rolex Submariner 1680 -1979
Why We Love it
Why We Love it–
Finding good vintage Subs is becoming difficult.
Given the popularity of the iconic diver in the past five years or so, many of the cleanest original examples have been snatched up by eager collectors, and prying them out of their hands is often an impossible task... After all, these watches are numero uno on many enthusiast's grail list for good reason.
The first Rolex Submariner was launched in 1954 and has been in continuous production ever since, making it one of the longest running models of any timepiece made. Ever. With undisputedly stunning looks that match virtually any situation, the Submariner represents itself to a tremendously broad market. Of course, most people would queue up to buy a new one…but you already know better, which is why you’re here.
We spend a fair amount of our time in pursuing and obtaining examples of excellent vintage Submariners, which has become a much harder task in recent years. Most of those we do find never make it to our site, often winding up on the wrists our friends in Manhattan within hours of obtaining them. We were beginning to feel that this was a bit unfair to our loyal cadre of online followers, so we kept the mobs blind to this one and are bringing it online to give everyone else a fair shot.
What you are looking at is a truly stellar example of the iconic reference 1680, which was the first Submariner model with a date function. Dating from approximately 1979, this particular Sub has developed an absolutely stunning patina across the dial and hands, has a great case that hasn't been over polished by zealous watchmakers, and even has its original bezel insert with luminescent dot intact! This is a rare find with this brilliant match, and will make its next owner very, very happy. Mounted up on the included heavy duty Oyster bracelet or one of a selection of nylon straps, this is one killer Sub that is ready for serious daily wear in any environment. Don’t miss it!
