Why We Love it
–Last year at Watches And Wonders, Rolex unveiled its newest iteration of the vaunted Rolex Explorer (also known as the Explorer I) and what the world got was not only a mechanical update, but a shocking and unexpected size shrink back to the 36mm case that we all know and love.
A further shock, was the inclusion of the new 36mm size with a two-tone yellow gold and stainless steel construction.
Thats right! The Explorer 1, thought to be one of the last remaining pure sports watches in the Rolex Professional lineup is now offered in [partial] precious metal.
This Reference 124273 features a 36mm Oyster case with a sapphire crystal a signed yellow gold crown, a smooth polished yellow gold bezel, a luminous glossy black dial with a matching yellow gold handset, and a two-tone Oyster bracelet with a signed fliplock clasp with Rolex's fantastic Easylink system.
The reintroduction of the 36mm Explorer is no doubt the hot ticket at the moment, but this two-tone variant offers a bit of fizz for those looking to have a little fun with things.
Brand Story

Brand Story
+The day was May 29, 1953, and Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay stood on top of the world. Rolex had indeed come with them to the summit of Mount Everest and since then Rolex has long been known as the watch of exploration. The triumph of the 1953 expedition and spirit of adventure and exploration that the Explorer represents can certainly be felt when this watch is strapped to your wrist.
These were watches designed to be tough as nails and capable of operating effectively in the harshest conditions known to man. Whether it was diving to the lowest point or climbing to the highest, you've got to hand it to Rolex - they know how to build one hell of a sports watch! It really doesn't get more badass than that.
