Why We Love it
Why We Love it–
There is no doubt that the Rolex Datejust is one of the most ubiquitous Rolex models on the planet. With its truly iconic design and excellent proportions, the Datejust has been the go-to Rolex for the last sixty years. While lesser watches would have become passé or staid in that time, the Datejust has held its own, continuing to be the first stop for many enthusiasts - both vintage and contemporary - in the Rolex journey, and for good reason.
The Datejust was designed to be an everyday-wear watch capable of taking in stride the vast array of environs that the wearer might encounter. With its Oyster case, featuring a Trip-lock crown and screw back, the Datejust effortlessly thwarts moisture and dust, and at 36mm, it wears as easily with a shirt and jacket as it does with an Oxford and a pair of jeans. The Reference 1601, with it's faceted white gold bezel, adds a splash of class that elevates an otherwise simple piece into an eye-catching accoutrement to any sartorial display.
Most Datejusts came with simple silver dials, and while they are the essence of spartan class, so-called 'exotic' dial variants can totally transform the look of these legendary pieces. This particular piece, hailing from roughly 1971, has a blue luminous 'pie-pan' dial - one of the most desirable dial expressions - making it absolutely stunning on the wrist.
Paired with a lovely Jubilee bracelet, this Datejust should be on the radar for any enthusiast. Whether you're looking to round out an already blossoming collection or begin one, an exotic dial Datejust is an easy choice with a truly timeless feel.
