–From pressing a chronograph pusher to watching the smooth sweep of a seconds hand, there’s something to be said about watching a mechanical object put into motion.
A model car evokes a very similar feeling. It beckons you to glide it across a table, to open its doors to get a closer look at its detailed interior and to pop the hood revealing a carbon copy engine. What’s more, there’s an element of playfulness between the two — a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously. Whether it’s watches, model cars or anything vintage, it’s the tactile experience that keeps us in the moment, and it’s what we love about all analog things.
The 917 remains as one of the most important cars ever made in Porsche’s storied history, helping the brand snag its first overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970. There’s no doubt this icon is a grail for any car collection. Although you won’t be able to take this model toy out on the track, we can say with confidence that it’s certainly more wallet friendly and will put a smile on your face every time you fire it up.
This battery operated “computer car” Porsche 917 produced by Interpur dates back to the mid 1970s and features the 917’s distinguishable long-tail body and central cockpit, and is dressed in a blue and red racing livery referencing the classic Gulf Racing 917s that stormed Le Mans in the early 1970s. Measuring approximately 11” x 4 1/4" x 2 1/2", it has more than enough presence to be eye-catching, but is equally subtle, seamlessly fitting into any display space.
This example is in excellent condition throughout showing normal wear and patina. Functions have not been tested. Includes its original box.
