Why We Love it

There’s nothing more classic and appealing than a simple dress watch.

Though to be fair, when we say “simple,” we mean “uncomplicated” — not unattractive! The 21st century saw a plethora of such watches hit the market. Generally available on leather straps and featuring two or three hands, these reliable wristwatches kept time during the classiest decades of the past 100 years. However, some were more innovative than others.

This particular Polo dress watch from Piaget — which specialized in ultra-thin watchmaking — is one such example. Doing away with a leather strap in favor of a wildly cool, integrated bracelet, it takes on the aspect of a piece of refined jewelry, rather than that of a more typical timepiece.

Housed in a 20mm, yellow gold-plated case with an acrylic crystal, a matching, unsigned crown, and a grooved bezel, it features an awesome polished and milled ‘champagne’ dial with a matching, yellow gold, modified ‘alpha’ handset. Set within a gold-plated, integrated bracelet with an unsigned clasp, it’s powered by an entirely ‘80s-appropriate quartz movement.

Imagine the looks of curiosity — and perhaps envy — that you’ll stir up when rocking this bold Piaget at a cocktail party. With its eye-catching design, fascinating dial, and awesome bracelet, this is a standout timepiece from a decade of otherwise underwhelming designs.

Overall Condition

The case is in very good condition overall showing normal wear consistent with age and use and sporadic oxidation and discoloration throughout. Textured gold-tone dial is in excellent condition with matching 'dauphine' handset. Unsigned crown.

Brand Story

+
Piaget is perhaps the foremost player in ultra-thin watches and watch movements in the world. Established in 1874 in Geneva and currently under the Richemont Group umbrella, the maison began producing wristwatch movements in 1911, manufacturing the Calibre 9P, its first ultra-thin, hand-wound mechanical movement, in 1957.

In 1960, Piaget released the Calibre 12P, the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time, at just 2.3mm. It fitted many of its miniature movements into innovative timepieces hidden in coins, brooches, and cufflinks, becoming known equally for its jewelry.

The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate, released as a concept in 2018, became a full production model in 2020. At just 2mm thick, it took the record for thinnest watch on Earth. Today, Piaget continues to innovate in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking, creating ultra-thin tourbillons, retrograde movements, and more.
