Why We Love it

If you’ve ever worn an automatic watch, you owe something of a debt to Perrelet.

Company founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet was one of the inventors of the self-winding movement, having developed an early version way back in 1777. The family-owned firm has since created myriad notable timepieces and instruments — including the first pedometer in 1780 — and was appointed watchmaker to three French kings.

Of course, their modern timepieces are no less notable! 2009 saw the debut of the Turbine, a watch that puts the motor’s ‘double rotor’ movement on display via the dial, thus giving the impression of a spinning propeller. It’s a unique aesthetic brought about by the clever repurposing of a component already in use in an automatic watch. Pretty smart, if you ask us.

The particular Turbine we have here is a Reference A1051 dating to circa the 2020s. Housed in a 44mm black PVD case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished PVD bezel, it features a black and orange ‘turbine’ dial with a black outer chapter ring, and a luminous dagger handset. Powered by the Perrelet Calibre P331MH movement with 42 hours of power reserve, it comes paired to a black rubber strap with a signed PVD pin buckle.

Clever, eye-catching, and bold, the Turbine is a watch for someone who wants to stand out from the crowd.

If that’s you, then you know what to do!

Brand Story

+
Swiss watch industry veteran, businessman, and entrepreneur Maximilian Büsser founded his eponymous brand MB&F (“Maximilian Büsser & Friends”) in 2005 following accomplished stints at Harry Winston and Jaeger-LeCoultre. A horological laboratory of sorts, MB&F is unlike traditional watchmaking enterprises, bringing together innovators from across the industry to collaborate on “Horological Machines” and “Legacy Machines” — timekeeping devices and wristwatches that push the creative and engineering envelopes in completely new directions.
A relatively small and nimble company, MB&F crafts kinetic sculptures in partnership with some of the most learned minds in watchmaking, including Stephen McDonnell, Kari Voutilainen, L’Epée, and others, the results of which are breathtaking. Certain of these works are displayed in the company’s “M.A.D. Galleries” (“mechanical art devices”) around the world, allowing buyers, potential customers, and others to view the firm’s groundbreaking horological art in a nontraditional setting.
MB&F and its creations have been awarded by the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève — the “Oscars” of the watch world — in recognition of the firm’s creativity, spirit, and watchmaking accomplishment. Truly, there are few companies operating today whose wares can be considered as thought-provoking and innovative as those of Maximilian Büsser & Friends.
