Why We Love it

The chronograph is one of the most complicated manually-wound movements to manufacture. They also make for one of the most beautiful movements on the finishing side.

Leave it to Patek Philippe to take this mechanical concept a step further.

The split seconds chronograph is capable of splitting the seconds hand by halting one seconds hand and letting a second hand continue to advance as a split to time a second event. Let's say you are timing a horse race. You'd start the seconds chronograph at the start of the race. When the first horse completes the lap, you'd split the seconds, halting the first seconds hand to indicate the first horse's time, but leaving the split hand to time the second horse. It's a brilliant complication and extremely elaborate to execute.

What we have here is one of Patek's most beautiful split chronos, the mammoth Reference 5370P. With a stunning blue enamel dial, applied white gold Breguet numerals, a gorgeous calibre CHR 29-535 PS manually wound chrono movement, and an integrated split mechanism in the crown, this piece is one of the most attractive modern Patek pieces in the lineup.

It's absolutely a piece of horological art — a true heirloom piece that gets passed down through the generations.

Brand Story

+
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few luxury brands in the world carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer. They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.

Of course for a brand that is steeped in heritage, we are told ‘You never actually own a Patek Philippe…”

Well, you know the rest.
