Why We Love it

First introduced in 1932 with the legendary Reference 96, the Patek Philippe Calatrava set the benchmark for the modern men’s dress watch. Groundbreaking in its time, the 96 distilled watchmaking to its purest form, with a Bauhaus-inspired “less is more” aesthetic that clients considered strikingly contemporary. It not only became the cornerstone of Patek’s own output, but also the template for how countless other maisons approached the art of the refined dress watch.

Over the decades, Patek has introduced numerous Calatrava references, each with its own character yet all anchored by the DNA of the original 96: balanced proportions, subtle elegance, and a quiet confidence that transcends trends. This Calatrava, Reference 3569/1J, embodies that timeless ethos. Its champagne dial mirrors the warmth of the 18K yellow gold case, creating a harmonious, understated brilliance. Adding intrigue, the watch features a backwind mechanism—operated by a discreet crown on the reverse of the case—offering both technical distinction and aesthetic purity.

Classic in every sense, the 3569/1J demonstrates why the Calatrava remains the definitive dress watch. Its simplicity and refinement make it as modern today as when it was introduced, a testament to Patek Philippe’s design longevity. Quintessential Patek: elegant, restrained, and endlessly collectable.

From the simple elegance of their Calatrava line to the stunning study in miniaturization that is reference 1518 perpetual calendar to the modern reference 5750P chiming watch, Patek’s catalog is chock full of some of the most elegant and complicated timepieces ever made. Family-owned and completely independent, the firm has the freedom to do what it wants — such as discontinue one of the world’s most beloved steel luxury sport watches, the reference 5711 — when it wants.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.
