This rare find is a vintage pressed tin Pan American Supersonic Super Jet toy by Daiya Japan. Styled to evoke the iconic Concorde, it was produced in the 1960s and measures an impressive 18 inches in length — long enough to appear aerodynamic even when standing still. Finished in the classic Pan Am blue-and-white livery, it comes straight from the era when the Concorde wasn’t just a plane, but a promise: faster, sleeker, higher, cooler—a future with cocktails at Mach 2. Three plus hours from Paris to New York.
Our example shows its age gracefully — a couple of dents here, a touch of wear there — the good kind of patina, the kind that suggests it lived an exciting life on bedroom runways and coffee tables of the mid-century jet-set imagination. It calls for batteries. Does it still light up or make sounds? No idea. It might surprise you. It might not. We’re choosing to call that “romantic suspense.”
Displayed on a bookshelf, credenza, studio console, or the corner of a bar cart, it broadcasts a very specific energy: a worldly, nostalgic, and travel-with-style vibe. Think tailored suits, paper tickets, and the belief that the future was something we were building, not bracing for.
For the Pan-Am romantic, the aviation dreamer, the person who still looks out the airplane window during takeoff — this one is for you.
