Details

Sure, Analog:Shift is a business built around the love of watches — mostly mechanical watches. But, in essence, it’s our love for timepieces and timekeeping in general that are the common themes throughout the items we procure. And that includes the love of clocks in general: pocket watches, travel clocks, and more.

After all, in the couple hundred years before the First World War, personal timekeeping was all about the pocket watch, and before that, it was larger clocks that were front and center, horologically. We still believe a good clock — such as a classic travel model from the 1920s or 1930s — has a place in the watch lover’s collection.

This particular timepiece is an incredible find: An Omega ref. MG 1135, it's a rattrapante (split-seconds) stopwatch made for Olympic timing. Dating to the 1960s, it consists of an oversized 65mm chromed stopwatch with a prominent winding crown and dual pushers at 11 and 1 o'clock. Powered by the hand-wound Omega cal. 1210 movement, it boasts a white enamel dial with an outer 30/60-second register in black and red, a subsidiary 15-minute totalizer, and a central split-seconds handset for timing simultaneous events.

When fitted to its special red Olympic timing housing measuring 4 5/8" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/4", this humble stopwatch transforms into a shockproof, waterproof accessory capable of timing the most grueling of races or events down to a fraction of a second. (It even features its correct vinyl strap for wearing around the neck.) An incredible vestige of Omega's Olympic legacy, this beautiful object is ready for decades' more faithful service.
