Why We Love it
–The Omega Chronostop is a bit of an oddball in the history of Omega chronographs. Made from the late 1960s through the 1970s, Chronostops offered the (admittedly limited) functionality of a 60-second stopwatch feature, operated from a single pusher located above the crown. The first push starts the sweep hand, the second (on the depress) stops it and resets it to 12 (on the release). Although these watches don't offer any sort of totalizer beyond 60 seconds, they were still useful tools for athletes, drivers, and medical professionals, and sold well during their production run.
Most Chronostops were sized relatively small, and offered a variety of dial configurations ranging from the subdued to the outright loud. This particular piece features an oversized 41mm cushion case, making it an attractive and sensibly sized for daily wear. Its lovely patinated black dial and brightly accented hands really jump off your wrist, and its unique functionality make it an excellent conversation piece. Powered by the manually-wound Omega Calibre 865 movement developed specifically for this model, this is a tremendously cool and collectable timepiece for a great price!
