Why We Love it

Why We Love It

'Reverse Panda' is a term used to denote a dial configuration that features white subsidiary registers against a black background. A slightly more subtle bi-color combination than a traditional black on white 'Panda' dial, reverse pandas are highly sought after regardless of brand name - collectors go crazy over them and we can't blame them!

The 1960s Mulco-branded chronograph we have here features an extremely crisp non-luminous dial with beautiful red accents adjacent to each hour marker.  Powered by a Valjoux 724 manually winding chronograph movement, and fitted with a matching red chronograph seconds hand and bi-directionally rotating acrylic timing bezel, this Mulco offers an extremely sporty look with an excellent quality/value balance.

Eat your heart out, Evil Nina!

The Story

This particular watch was made by Mulco, which was registered as a trademark in the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property in 1936. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the brand produced a variety of time-only and complicated watches. In their 1949 catalog, which they presented at the Basel Fair, they offered over a hundred models—including chronographs. Mulco chronographs from the 1960s were built to rugged standards with quality contract cases and name-brand movements.
