Why We Love it
–Though collaborations and partnerships are more common than ever these days, the 20th century also saw its fair share of watch companies teaming up for the greater horological good.
Take Zenith and Movado, for example. Back in the 1970s, these two brands were under the same umbrella, and as a result, you’ll often find Zenith-produced movements within Movado watches. Such is the case with the awesome timepiece we have here:
A Reference HS288 Tempo-Matic, it may be a time-only watch, but it’s got enough character to compete with a QP from a Patek. (Ok — maybe not quite that much character, but certainly a lot.) Housed in a 36mm stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal, a signed crown, and a polished bezel, it features a brushed blue tritium dial with applied indices, an outer 1/5th-seconds track, a lumed ‘sword’ handset, and a date window at 3 o’clock.
Powering this neat, distinctly Disco Era-timepiece is the automatic Zenith 2562 PC movement, while the watch head is paired to an awesome, matching stainless steel bracelet with a locking clasp.
If you’re ready to show off your funkier side, then this is the watch for you!
Brand Story
+
Brand Story
+Production from that point on proved how true the name brand was—it means "always in motion" in Esperanto. Throughout the 20th century Movado produced incredible mechanical timepieces. They gained notoriety for the sophistication of the equipment and technology they employed, including electric tools.
Unlike many of their counterparts, Movado's movements were designed and manufactured in-house.
In the late 1960s, they were acquired by Zenith, and enjoyed perhaps their greatest period of success as the subsidiary of that brand. Their chronographs (which used the famous Zenith El Primero movement), particularly, were successful sellers. But the extent of their offerings didn’t end there. They also made killer dress watches like the one we have here.
