From pressing a chronograph pusher to watching the smooth sweep of a seconds hand, there’s something to be said about watching a mechanical object put into motion.
A model car evokes a very similar feeling. It beckons you to glide it across a table, to open its doors to get a closer look at its detailed interior and to pop the hood revealing a carbon copy engine. What’s more, there’s an element of playfulness between the two — a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously. Whether it’s watches, model cars or anything vintage, it’s the tactile experience that keeps us in the moment, and it’s what we love about all analog things.
This awesome vintage find is a clockwork model kit of the Mercedes W196 300SLR race car made by Schuco. Produced in Germany and datinh back to the 1980s, this set is in virtually brand-new condition, untouched and unbuilt. Also originally offered as completed models, this variant allows for two stages of enjoyment - the task of construction and then rewarding play! A rare find, this set includes its original box, instructions and all of its original pieces in excellent condition so that you can have the pleasure of putting it together for the very first time.
When assembled, this Monza-bodied racer will not only delight the eyes with its 'Silver Arrow' bodywork and livery, chrome accents, and incredible detail throughout, but can be thrust into motion with its wind-up clockwork motor!
Think of it as your first class in watchmaking. Enjoy the time spent assembling this model car and all the moments that follow whenever you wind it up and let it rip down the hall or pass by it on your shelf!
