Why We Love it
–High-end, independent watchmaking is alive and well these days — though with price tags that often make new watch collectors’ eyes water.
However, not every timepiece from each such high-end brand is priced like a mid-level sedan. To wit: the ERWIN LAB03, a collaboration timepiece between the brilliant William Massena’s Massena LAB and Habring, featuring a dial by master dialmarker J.N. Shapiro and a chronometer certification from the Horological Society of New York. Quite the pedigree, we think you’ll agree — and especially at this price!
Where do we even begin with such a masterfully designed, classically inspired timepiece? How about with the case: Sized at a perfect (and unisex) 38.5mm in stainless steel, it features polished lugs and a stepped bezel reminiscent of timepieces from the 1940s. Beneath a sapphire crystal is the star of the show: a bronze ‘basketweave’ guilloché dial by J.N. Shapiro with matching blued steel hands and Roman numerals. Machining this type of dial by hand is a painstaking process, and Shapiro is one of few people in the U.S.A. who can do it.
Powering the watch — and visible via a sapphire caseback — is the hand-wound, mechanical Caliber A11s by Habring. Made in Austria, it features a patented central ‘deadbeat seconds’ complication and is hand-adjusted to Horological Society of New York specifications. Beating at 28,800 oscillations per hour, it has a 48-hour power reserve and a special amagnetic escapement with chronometer-quality Carl Hass balance spring.
Paired to a signed, navy blue leather strap with a signed, stainless steel pin buckle, this magnificent timepiece is accompanied by its factory goodies. A limited edition of just 66 pieces, it quickly sold out, and it’s little wonder why: For the price of a common, industrially produced dive watch from a luxury brand, you’re getting a hand-made piece of haute horlogerie that will stand the test of time.
There’s no doubt about it: This is an heirloom-grade watch, made by those for whom horology is as much an art as it is a science.
Brand Story

Brand Story
+Husband-and-wife team Richard and Maria Kristina Habring had plenty of experience in the watchmaking industry prior to founding their eponymous firm in 2004 — Richard worked as a technical developer at both IWC and A. Lange & Söhne, two of the finest companies doing business today. Together, they develop some of the best timepieces in the boutique watchmaking space, pieces that span everything from time-only dress watches to complicated chronographs.
Famed for his development of a split-second chronograph for IWC, Richard brought this historical complication to his own eponymous brand and subsequently developed in-house calibers such as the A11B. Production across all collections is capped at roughly 200 pieces per year, making for high-quality, handmade watches that receive the utmost in personal touch, care and quality control.
Value-packed and wildly handsome, Habring watches are well respected by both collectors and laypeople, and represent the future of high-end, boutique watchmaking at mid-level luxury pricing.
