Why We Love it
–The 1980s marked a period of reinvention for Heuer. While the golden age of the Carrera, Autavia, and Monaco had cemented the brand's place in motorsport history, the Quartz Crisis demanded a new approach. The result was the 2000 Series—a collection of purpose-built sports watches that combined Swiss precision, contemporary styling, and everyday durability. Introduced just before the company transitioned to TAG Heuer, these "Heuer-only" models have become increasingly sought after as collectors rediscover this pivotal chapter in the brand's history.
This 2000 Quartz Chronograph is among the most compelling references from the series. Its 38mm bead-blasted stainless steel case projects a distinctly utilitarian character, complemented by matching pushers, crown, and integrated bracelet. A black unidirectional timing bezel frames an equally striking black dial, where luminous arrowhead hour markers and contrasting silver registers provide exceptional legibility. The bold handset, oversized date display, and clean three-register layout capture the functional, no-nonsense design language that defined professional dive chronographs of the era.
Powering the watch is the celebrated Heuer Calibre 185 "Super Quartz" movement, pairing a high-accuracy quartz base with the sophisticated Dubois-Dépraz 2000 chronograph module. The result is a movement prized for its reliability, crisp chronograph action, and robust construction, while the 200-meter water resistance underscored the watch's genuine sporting credentials.
Overshadowed for years by Heuer's earlier racing chronographs, the 2000 Series has quietly become one of the smartest entries into vintage Heuer collecting. It offers everything enthusiasts admire about the brand—purposeful design, technical innovation, and unmistakable wrist presence—wrapped in a package that feels unmistakably 1980s. For collectors who appreciate the era's industrial aesthetic and Heuer's evolution before the TAG years, the 2000 Quartz Chronograph remains one of the decade's hidden gems.
Brand Story

Brand Story
+The company entered its defining era in 1962, when Jack Heuer—the founder’s great-grandson—took the helm. A lifelong racing enthusiast with a keen eye for design, Jack transformed the brand by introducing some of the most influential chronographs ever made. The Autavia debuted as Heuer’s first named chronograph collection, designed specifically for drivers and pilots. At the same time, the Carrera, introduced in 1963, became an instant icon thanks to its exceptional legibility and minimalist dial. In 1969, Heuer was part of the international consortium that developed the groundbreaking Caliber 11, one of the world’s first automatic chronograph movements, which powered legendary models including the Monaco, Autavia, and Carrera.
Like many Swiss manufacturers, Heuer struggled during the Quartz Crisis before being acquired by Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) in 1985, giving rise to TAG Heuer. Today, vintage Heuer chronographs from the 1960s and 1970s rank among the most coveted sports watches in the world, while current-day LVMH-owned TAG Heuer continues to build upon that legacy through faithful reissues, modern motorsport-inspired designs, and contemporary technical innovation.
