Why We Love it

Greubel Forsey is an Independent watchmaking force to be reckoned with.

A relatively fresh face to the world of haute horologie, the brand has become an absolute powerhouse, creating complicated movements that are not only precise timekeeping machines, but mechanical masterpieces.

In 2004, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey debuted their first wristwatch at Baselworld — the Double Tourbillon 30°. Since that time, the company has solidified its reputation in horological circles, finding innovative technical solutions for the modern mechanical watch. Examples such as its GMT Sport, with its three-dimensional rotating globe, and the Grand Sonnerie, with its astounding 935-part movement and multiple sonnerie modes, encapsulate what this independent marque is capable of.

But all roads lead back to the company's bread and butter, the Double Tourbillon 30°, which we're proud to offer here. This piece features a 43.5mm white gold case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a wave pattern engraved in relief along its midcase. The gray dial features applied indices, blued screws, a constant seconds indicator at 9 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 3 o ‘clock, and a skeletonized spade handset. The magic however, resides within the lower third of the dial.

Visible through an openwork display, this piece features not one, but two tourbillon cages: The tourbillon mechanism consists of 128 parts, with the outer tourbillon cage revolving every four minutes, while the inner tourbillon, inclined at a 30° angle, revolves once per minute. The concept here is to remove gravity-induced errors on the escapement and thus allow for improved accuracy. The mechanics are absolutely mind-blowing, and the doublt tourbillon in action is the true definition of poetry in motion.

Outfitted to a signed, black alligator leather strap with a signed, white gold deployant buckle, this piece features the manually-winding Calibre GF-02 with each component expertly finished to a "T."

There are watch manufactures, and then there are disruptors. Greubel Forsey is very much the latter.

Brand Story

+
Greubel Forsey is an independent watchmaking force to be reckoned with.

A relatively fresh face to the world of haute horologie, the brand has become an absolute powerhouse, creating complicated movements that are not only precise timekeeping machines, but mechanical masterpieces.

Greubel Forsey's goal at founding was to reimagine the conventions of watchmaking, challenging the foundations of traditional timekeeping to deliver unique watches for the most distinguished collectors.

After 2004, the brand quickly expanded its scope, commissioning pieces in collaboration with Harry Winston for the Opus collection. After 2006, the brand expanded its production to encapsulate a whole host of pieces, almost all with unique takes on the escapement. Tourbillons, tilted escapements, double tourbillons, changed balance springs, and more, all helped to differentiate the brand in a competitive independent marketplace.

Today Greubel Forsey is known for some of the most out of this world designs in the industry. Known as an innovator and a challenger of convention, Greubel Forsey is a fantastic look into the future of the independent watchmaking segment of the industry.
