Few modern watches have captured collectors' imaginations quite like the Grand Seiko Shunbun.

Part of Grand Seiko's celebrated "Four Seasons" collection, the Reference SBGA413G draws inspiration from Shunbun, the Japanese spring equinox, a fleeting moment when cherry blossom petals drift across rivers and landscapes in a blur of soft pink. Like so many of Grand Seiko's finest creations, the watch transforms a poetic observation of nature into something tangible on the wrist.

The magic begins with the dial.

Rendered in an ethereal pale pink, the Shunbun's textured surface changes constantly with the light. At certain angles, it appears silver, at others blush pink, while the intricate pattern beneath evokes wind-swept petals carried by the currents of spring. It is a dial that refuses to sit still, rewarding every glance with a different expression. Few brands have mastered the art of dial-making quite like Grand Seiko, and the Shunbun remains one of their most beloved achievements.

Housed in a beautifully finished 40mm high-intensity titanium case, the watch offers the substantial presence of a modern sports watch while remaining remarkably light and comfortable on the wrist. Grand Seiko's signature Zaratsu polishing brings the faceted case, hands, and indices to life, creating sharp reflections that contrast beautifully with the dial's softer texture.

Powering the watch is Grand Seiko's remarkable Spring Drive Caliber 9R65, a movement that combines the best qualities of mechanical and quartz watchmaking. Offering a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, it is perhaps best known for its mesmerizing glide-motion seconds hand, which moves across the dial in a perfectly smooth sweep, unlike anything else in watchmaking.

Fitted to its matching titanium bracelet with a signed deployant clasp, this example is accompanied by its inner and outer boxes, warranty card, and hangtag.

The Shunbun isn't simply one of Grand Seiko's most sought-after references—it's one of the defining watches of modern Japanese watchmaking. It’s like wearing springtime on your wrist! 

The Grand Seiko was created by Taro Tanaka, a young designer whom Seiko had hired right out of school. Inspired by the way Swiss watches “sparkled brilliantly,” Tanaka set out to design a watch with sharp edges, brushed surfaces, and a mirror finish that would rival anything created by the Swiss. In 1960, the first Grand Seiko—Reference 3180—debuted.

Other models of Grand Seiko would follow, coupling those elegant “sparkling” cases with high-grade (often hi-beat) manually-wound or automatic movements. When compared to the no-nonsense tool watches like the 6309 line of divers, the Grand Seiko was worlds away—refined, elegant, and cosmopolitan. Seiko intended the watch to be an answer to dress watches crafted by the Swiss, and at that it certainly did succeed.

Well-regarded in its home country, the Grand Seiko reached a global audience in 2010—and has captivated consumers ever since.

We generally ship our products via FedEx, fully insured, within 5 business days of purchase. An adult signature is required for receipt of all packages for insurance purposes. Expedited shipping is available at an additional cost. We are also happy to hand deliver your purchase in Manhattan or you may pick it up at our showroom.

Returns must be sent overnight or by priority international delivery, fully insured and paid for by the customer. A restocking fee may apply. Watches must be returned in the same condition as initially shipped.
