Why We Love it

Few watch brands can compete with Girard-Perregaux in the history department.

Dating back to the late 1700's, Girard Perregaux has a story filled with innovation that includes pioneering efforts in early wristwatches and invaluable contributions to the engineering of the quartz movement.

Like many other brands, GP worked hard during the 1940’s to build simple, robust watches that could be worn day-to-day, the results of which were myriad beautiful timepieces that can still be had relatively affordably. This particular GP, however, is a modern take on a midcentury aesthetic.

This gorgeous Reference 2595 is housed in a 28mm x 44mm rose gold case with a signed crown, a domed sapphire crystal, and an exceptional dial. It features a blacked finished with applique numerals and subsidiary seconds. Although this model dates to the 90s, it certainly feels like a 40s or 50s classic.

Powered by a manually wound movement, it preserves the classic historical appeal of these timepieces in a surprisingly modern package.

Truly, this is a superlative, gorgeous contemporary dress watch that would make an excellent accent to a suit, or for anyone who enjoys a refined look with casual attire. It walks the line between modernity and vintage appeal, and does so in a truly unique way. This one is a keeper!

Brand Story

+
Few manufactures can trace their lineage as far back, or as credibly, as Girard-Perregaux. Founded in 1791, the brand stands among the true old guard of Swiss watchmaking, a maison that has quietly shaped the evolution of the wristwatch for more than two centuries.

From the start, Girard-Perregaux balanced aesthetics with engineering ambition. In the 19th century, Constant Girard’s Three Gold Bridges tourbillon transformed movement architecture into visual theater — not just a technical solution, but a design language. That instinct to elevate mechanics into art would define the house.

By the early 20th century, GP was producing wristwatches at a time when pocket watches still dominated, positioning itself ahead of shifting tastes. Decades later, in 1966, the brand unveiled one of the first high-frequency movements beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour — a meaningful leap in chronometric performance. And in 1971, Girard-Perregaux developed one of the earliest Swiss quartz calibers, helping establish the 32,768 Hz frequency that remains the global standard today.

Yet for all its technical milestones, GP’s enduring appeal lies in its balance: refinement without flash, innovation without noise. Two centuries on, the bridges still remain. Art and mechanics, past and present, precision and beauty.
