Why We Love it
–No one will fault you for wearing a Rolex around here. But if you want something truly special — something from a small batch made by hand each year — you’re going to have to look elsewhere.
You’re going to have to look at F.P. Journe.
Journe is one of the world’s foremost living watchmakers, having begun his studies at the age of 15. He received his watchmaking diploma at the École d'Horlogerie in Paris at the age of 19. His namesake timepieces are complicated works of horological art, the result of in-house ideation, design, and construction. In short: Journe is a master craftsman of the highest order, and his creations are some of the most desirable timepieces on Earth.
This special piece is one of his masterworks: a Tourbillon Souverain. Produced in a run of only about 100 pieces between two metals between 2003 and 2018, this particular example features a 40mm platinum case, white gold dial with whitened guilloché texturing, a blued steel handset, polished bezel, sapphire crystals on the front and back, and the brand's signature rope-textured winding crown. The dial displays the hours and minutes in a silver guilloche' register at 3 o'clock, with printed Arabic indices and a 60-minute outer track. Runnings seconds are located at 6 o'clock, counterbalanced by the power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock. The showstopper is the open-worked Remontoire d'Egalite tourbillon, located at the 9 o'clock position - So yeah, it's a looker!
But that's not all...
Powering this rare piece is the incredible F.P. Journe Calibre 14003 manually-wound movement. Constructed in solid 18l rose gold, this brilliant mechanism is equally as attractive as the opposite side! Comprised of 193 components, it is decorated with 26 jewels, côtes de genève, circular striping, and polished and beveled screw heads. This movement provides a constant-force power reserve of 42 hours, and also offers a dead beat seconds indicator, visible through the exhibition caseback.
Finished with a signed black alligator leather strap with matching platinum pin buckle, this exquisite piece is without question one of the finest independently-made timepieces we’ve had the pleasure of offering. This watch was evaluated and authenticated by F.P. Journe's NYC boutique prior to listing, and will include certificate of origin from F.P. Journe (on order).

+Born in Marseille in 1957, Journe began his watchmaking education at just 15 years old, receiving his watchmaking diploma at the École d'Horlogerie in Paris in 1976. He opened a studio in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1985, and subsequently relocated to the Swiss Jura in 1989, where he began work on his first tourbillon wristwatch. Ten years later, he established his eponymous firm in Geneva.
F.P. Journe builds precision chronometers outfitted with cases from its own case maker, and dials from its own dial maker. The recipient of numerous patents, Journe’s horological innovations have earned him plaudits from across the industry.
Today, F.P. Journe operates 10 boutiques around the world. Its incredibly well regarded wares have raised over two million CHF for various charities via auctions, only furthering to cement both the brand and the man in the annals of horological history.
