Why We Love it

The Grand Prix de Monaco Historique is a biannual event that brings together drivers and enthusiasts of historical cars to witness what vintage race cars were born to do –race.
Taking place at the very same circuit as the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix since 1997, the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique is a celebration of speed, sound, and beauty. With a deep connection to motorsport that dates back to the Mille Miglia, it was only natural that Chopard was chosen as a sponsor and official timekeeper for the growing event.
To commemorate the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, Chopard unveiled several models made to go hard and fast. Or as we say, never lift.
This particular Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chronograph ref. 168992-3032 is part of the brand’s Classic Racing collection and was released to celebrate Chopard’s longstanding partnership with the famed historic motorsport event in Monaco.
Housed in a lightweight 42mm titanium case, the watch pairs sporting performance with subtle motorsport cues. A grey PVD tachymeter ring frames the matte grey dial, which features a circular-grained finish, luminous stick markers, and bright orange accents on the seconds hand, giving the piece an unmistakably racing-inspired look.
The chronograph layout features three subdials for running seconds, a 30-minute timer, and a 12-hour counter, along with a date display at 3 o’clock. Powering the watch is a COSC-certified automatic chronometer movement offering approximately 46 hours of power reserve, underscoring Chopard’s commitment to precision.
Completing the theme is a perforated black calfskin strap with orange stitching, a deliberate nod to vintage driving gloves and classic racing culture. The sapphire crystal exhibition case back also features the Automobile Club de Monaco logo.
There’s no question that cars and watches go together. And when they come together in watch form, man, do we love it, and we’re sure you will too.

Brand Story

+
Established in 1860 in Solvilier, Switzerland, Chopard has been making watches and jewelry for over 160 years, with clients that include Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Known for its “Happy Diamond” watch in which diamonds appear to float on the dial, the brand boasts its own movement manufacture in Fleurier and a headquarters in Geneva.

If you’re interested in cars, you probably know Chopard for its longtime sponsorship of the famed Mille Miglia race, with which it has been associated since 1988. It’s also the official timekeeper of the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco, a title it has held since 2002.

Today, Chopard’s Alpine Eagle — based upon the St. Moritz watch from the 1980s — sits alongside the likes of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus in the “luxury sports watch” category, proving that the maison is more than just a purveyor of fine jewelry, but also a first-class watchmaker.
