Why We Love it

While Cartier is forever associated with the Tank, the maison has long understood that true elegance isn't confined to a single shape. For those who appreciate Cartier's unmistakable design language but prefer the timeless appeal of a round watch, the Ronde de Cartier offers a compelling alternative.

Drawing inspiration from early 20th-century dress watches, the Ronde distills Cartier's signature aesthetic into its purest form. Roman numerals, blued steel sword hands, a chemin de fer minute track, and the iconic sapphire cabochon crown are all present, proving that a Cartier can be instantly recognizable without its famous rectangular silhouette.

This Ronde Solo de Cartier is housed in an elegant 36mm yellow-gold case (with a steel case back) that strikes the perfect balance between dress-watch refinement and everyday versatility. Beneath its sapphire crystal is a satin-silver dial featuring oversized black Roman numerals, an inner railroad-minute track with a discreet 24-hour scale, a date display at 3 o'clock, and Cartier's signature blued-steel hands. Slim, refined, and effortlessly legible, it embodies the restrained sophistication that has defined the maison for more than a century.

Powered by a reliable quartz movement, it is paired with a signed black alligator leather strap and a matching yellow gold pin buckle. Accompanied by its original warranty card, this example is ready to be worn and enjoyed.

For collectors who appreciate Cartier's rich design heritage but want something beyond the Tank or Santos, the Ronde Solo is one of the maison's quiet successes. Understated, impeccably proportioned, and unmistakably Cartier, it is a watch that feels equally at home beneath a cuff or worn every day.

Brand Story

+
Few maisons have shaped the history of wristwatch design as profoundly as Cartier. While celebrated worldwide for its exceptional jewelry, the Parisian house has been at the forefront of watchmaking for well over a century, creating many of the most enduring and recognizable watch designs ever produced.

Cartier's story began in 1904, when Louis Cartier created one of the world's first purpose-built wristwatches for his friend, pioneering aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. The resulting Santos challenged the era's reliance on pocket watches and helped establish the wristwatch as a practical—and elegant—alternative.

In 1917, Cartier introduced what would become its defining creation: the Tank. Inspired by the aerial geometry of the Renault FT tanks used during the First World War, Louis Cartier transformed their parallel tracks into the watch's signature brancards, creating a silhouette whose clean proportions have remained virtually unchanged for more than a century. From the elongated Tank Cintrée and refined Tank Louis Cartier to the architectural Tank Chinoise, the collection has evolved into one of the most influential watch families ever made.

Cartier's appeal has always extended far beyond traditional watch collectors. Worn by cultural icons including Rudolph Valentino, Clark Gable, Andy Warhol, Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, its watches have become symbols of timeless style as much as exceptional design.

Beyond the Tank, collections such as the Santos, Panthère, Pasha, Ballon Bleu, and Crash have each become icons in their own right. Today, Cartier occupies a unique place in horology—one of the few maisons equally revered for its jewelry craftsmanship and its extraordinary contribution to the history of watch design.
