Why We Love it

Why We Love it
–Yes, we're vintage watch snobs.
In virtually any comparison, we'll take a piece that has been properly aged over something shiny and new. There is just something inherently superior in our minds about a timepiece that has already passed through time. It gets a little metaphysical, a little emotional, a little wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey to explain properly, but you're with us, right?
Anyhow, there are a few specific times when only a modern wristwatch will do the job--and those times are in the field, or in the water. If you're out digging up Unicorn bones in the Scottish highlands, battling space aliens with adaptive camouflage in some equatorial rainforest, defending your urban stronghold against a raging zombie horde, or diving for lost treasure, chances are a modern timepiece would be a better tool for the job. It has something to do with their inherently superior water resistance, durability, accuracy, as well as their ease of replacement and all that. We won't bore you with the practicality of it all.
Seeing that we at Analog/Shift engage in at least one of these activities on a monthly basis, we have had to make some tough decisions and select modern watches that are up to difficult tasks without being, you know, too modern and bleh.
Bremont is a true rarity in the modern timepiece industry. Independently owned, Bremont produces incredibly high quality purpose-built timepieces in Great Britain with a distinctively aeronautical theme. Utilizing their custom Trip-Tick cases and modified Swiss Calibres tuned to Chronometer grade, Bremont's collection showcases the passion for engineering and aviation that the owners, the appropriately named Nick & Giles English, hold close to their hearts. We're suckers for timepieces with soul, and Bremont has it in spades.
Furthermore, when Bremont does a limited edition, they are truly and actually limited. Our Norton chronograph, featured here, is one of just 200 such pieces produced in 2009, and long ago sold out. Coming fully loaded with all the features a modern tool chronograph should come with (including a domed sapphire crystal, 100M depth rating, SuperLuminova hands, and a hardened steel case), and powered by a modified Valjoux 7750, the ultimate beauty of the Norton is in its decidedly retro styling, cued by the Norton Commando 961 motorbikes.
This particular piece comes from our personal collection, and we know we'll regret it once it's gone.
