–From pressing a chronograph pusher to watching the smooth sweep of a seconds hand, there’s something to be said about watching a mechanical object put into motion.
A model car evokes a very similar feeling. It beckons you to glide it across a table, to open its doors to get a closer look at its detailed interior and to pop the hood revealing a carbon copy engine. What’s more, there’s an element of playfulness between the two — a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously. Whether it’s watches, model cars or anything vintage, it’s the tactile experience that keeps us in the moment, and it’s what we love about all analog things.
This BMW Turbo was produced by Schuco in the 1970s, a legend in the world of toy making and known for their hand crafted, faithfully reproduced models and toys. Made in West Germany, it features the angular styling of the BMW Turbo concept car designed by Paul Bracq and unveiled in 1972 at the Munich Olympic games. This silhouette became the framework for the wedge-shaped M1 - the very first car from BMW Motorsport. Detailing on this remote controlled car is excellent, featuring gullwing doors, nicely moulded vents, taillights and badges, and an orange and red paint job that nicely tributes the original concept vehicle. It comes with a built-in multi-channel remote control and two electric motors for travel and steering.
Measuring approximately 13" x 4 1/2" x 3", this is a large scale toy in incredible condition that comes with its original box, remote, and assorted goodies that come along with it. Whether used for display or running timed laps around your living room, this is an incredible toy from an era when toymakers cared about quality - we can't think of a single person who wouldn't love unwrapping this time capsule and feeling like the luckiest kid in the world!
It may very well be the Ultimate Play Machine.
