Why We Love it

We aren't shy about our love of DOXA here at Analog:Shift.

In fact, the original inspiration behind Analog:Shift was squarely centered on DOXA! In any flavor, any color, from the classic orange-dialed Professional to the stunning silver-dialed Searambler, we love 'em all.

While perhaps not as well-known as the Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms or the Rolex Submariner, the DOXA SUB series played an integral role in the development of the modern diver's watch. The first generation of the model, introduced in 1967, brought innovations we now take for granted — a unidirectional dive bezel with the U.S. Navy's no-decompression dive timing marks engraved, an expanding bracelet, a brightly colored, high-legibility dial, and an oversized luminous minute hand, to name but a few.

The SUB 1500T is a successor to 1968's SUB 300T Conquistador, one of the first commercially-available divers with a Helium Escape Valve. Boasting a huge 45mm stainless steel case and 1,500m of water resistance, it's the watch you strap on when you need a serious tool for serious work. Powered by an automatic Swiss movement, it's of course available in all the typical DOXA colorways.

This particular SUB 1500T is a classic, silver-dialed 'Searambler.' Measuring 45mm in diameter by 16.25mm tall, it features a unidirectional dive bezel with no-deco scale in orange and black, a signed, screw-down crown, a sapphire crystal, and a brushed and polished beads-of-rice bracelet. Its silver dial has applied luminous indices, an oversized orange minute hand, a smaller hour hand, an outer printed minute track in black, and a framed date window at 3 o'clock. Opposing wordmarks feature at 4 o'clock and 10 o'clock in typical DOXA SUB fashion.

Boasting a power reserve of 50 hours and accompanied by its factory goodies, this 'Searambler' is the perfect tool for the frequent diver — or the SCUBA-curious!

Brand Story

+
DOXA began Research and Development for the Sub 300 in 1964, under a team helmed by Urs Eschle, the brand's head of operations, who consulted professional divers including none other than the father of SCUBA himself, Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

Since wearability was crucial, Eschle designed a large case with wide rounded lugs. For the dial, the team tested many colors (orange, yellow, turquoise, and red) in the waters of Neuchatel Lake. An unprecedented amount of tritium was also used on the hands and hour indices.

The team implemented a unidirectional bezel with an innovative insert: the U.S. Navy No Decompression chart, with the outer depth scale in orange and the minute scale in black, to allow divers to gauge how much air was in left in their tanks. Rounding out the Sub 300's innovative design was a beads-of-rice bracelet that was the first to implement an ratcheting expandable clasp capable of fitting over a diver's wetsuit without having to remove links.
