Why We Love it

MB&F (Maximilian Büsser & Friends) is without question one of the most creative outfits in the contemporary boutique watchmaking space.

Founded by industry veteran watchmaker Max Büsser in 2005, the brand is built upon collaborating with leading horological designers, watchmakers, visionaries and brands such as Massena LAB, L’Épée, Alain Silberstein, H. Moser, Black Badger, and more. Their timepieces — and we specify ‘timepieces,’ as MB&F makes much more than just wristwatches — are some of the most innovative, daring, and properly unique products in modern horology, known for their use of alternative time-telling systems, unique materials, and interesting complications.

Take for the Horological Machine No. 3, or HM3 for short. The HM3 debuted in the late 2000s and to this day, is one of the manufacture's most recognizable creations with its distinguishable twin cone-shaped time-telling apertures and futuristic case silhouette forged out of various precious metals. With a number of wildly creative iterations including the beloved 'Frog' editions and a collaborative piece with Stepan Sarpaneva with moonphase display that have come to life over the course of its run, there is an immediate stand-out and in our opinion: The best (and also the very last) variation of the HM3 — the MegaWind Final Edition.

This particular example, a Reference 35.WTL.B, features a 47mm x 50mm 18k white gold and titanium case with satin-finishing and subtle polished accents along its case edge. Amplifying its unique profile, the case features a set of stylized screws spread throughout the case face, a signed gear-wheel-shaped screw-down crown and an expansive aperture that gives us a view into its 270-component, Jean-Marc Wiederrecht designed automatic engine, including its signature gold and titanium ‘battle-axe’ winding rotor.

Another distinguishable piece of design language that will appeal to any haute horologie enthusiasa are the pair of two cone-shaped apertures displaying the hours and minutes with Arabic numerals visible in a full 360 degrees. One noticeable element present on the Final Edition versions is an added sapphire aperture atop the cones, which provides an abbreviated display for a more legible experience on the fly.

Fitted to a set of newly designed integrated lugs, this HM3 MegaWind comes with a signed alligator leather strap with a signed leaf-spring titanium deployant buckle, this avant-garde masterpiece is in as-new condition throughout, showing only the faintest signs of wear from careful handling. Accompanied by its complete set including inner and outer boxes, papers and a custom display box to show off this 'M.A.D.' scientist creation, this piece offers a truly unique experience in the high end independent space.

Strap this baby on and you’ll be sure to turn some heads at your next collector GTG!

Brand Story

+
Swiss watch industry veteran, businessman, and entrepreneur Maximilian Büsser founded his eponymous brand MB&F (“Maximilian Büsser & Friends”) in 2005 following accomplished stints at Harry Winston and Jaeger-LeCoultre. A horological laboratory of sorts, MB&F is unlike traditional watchmaking enterprises, bringing together innovators from across the industry to collaborate on “Horological Machines” and “Legacy Machines” — timekeeping devices and wristwatches that push the creative and engineering envelopes in completely new directions.

A relatively small and nimble company, MB&F crafts kinetic sculptures in partnership with some of the most learned minds in watchmaking, including Stephen McDonnell, Kari Voutilainen, L’Epée, and others, the results of which are breathtaking. Certain of these works are displayed in the company’s “M.A.D. Galleries” (“mechanical art devices”) around the world, allowing buyers, potential customers, and others to view the firm’s groundbreaking horological art in a nontraditional setting.

MB&F and its creations have been awarded by the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève — the “Oscars” of the watch world — in recognition of the firm’s creativity, spirit, and watchmaking accomplishment. Truly, there are few companies operating today whose wares can be considered as thought-provoking and innovative as those of Maximilian Büsser & Friends.
