Why We Love it

For much of its existence, Piaget operated quietly behind the proverbial curtain, producing some of the most horoligicaly impressive mechanical movements in Switzerland.

But when the Piaget name was displayed on a dial, the brand embodied a distinguishable lavish style that became synonymous with a period of opulence, representative of the 1960s and 1970s. Their stunning creations were worn by icons of style – Andy Warhol, Roger Moore, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Elvis Presley, to name but a few.

This Reference 13432 dates to the 1970s and is housed in a 33mm x 31mm 18k yellow gold ‘television’ style cushion case that features beautiful chamfered edges and a stepped bezel. Its sunburst champagne dial features applied gold tone indices, a ‘dauphine’ handset, a date window at 3 o’clock and a stylized Piaget wordmark printed at 12 o'clock. Powered by a micro rotor automatic movement, this thin-profile Piaget wears larger - and smacks harder on the wrist - than its case dimensions would suggest!

Artistically expressive 1960s and 1970s pieces from Piaget - okay, all pieces from Piaget -  are having a moment and this particular example has all the hallmarks of a great vintage piece; an honest case and excellent dial, impressive thinness, and fab style for days. Dressed in our Vesper Green Alligator-Pattern Leather Strap with a signed 18k pin buckle, it exudes the brand’s signature playfulness when it comes to messing around with color.

We'd rate this about a 110 on the cool-old-shitometer!

Brand Story

+
Piaget is perhaps the foremost player in ultra-thin watches and watch movements in the world. Established in 1874 in Geneva and currently under the Richemont Group umbrella, the maison began producing wristwatch movements in 1911, manufacturing the Calibre 9P, its first ultra-thin, hand-wound mechanical movement, in 1957.

In 1960, Piaget released the Calibre 12P, the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time, at just 2.3mm. It fitted many of its miniature movements into innovative timepieces hidden in coins, brooches, and cufflinks, becoming known equally for its jewelry.

The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate, released as a concept in 2018, became a full production model in 2020. At just 2mm thick, it took the record for thinnest watch on Earth. Today, Piaget continues to innovate in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking, creating ultra-thin tourbillons, retrograde movements, and more.
