Take the plunge!
While the brand name 'Rotary' may not ring a bell, their 'golden era' diving watches are becoming increasingly coveted amongst tool watch collectors. Manufactured in the early 1960s, these pieces were made to a very high standard, designed for professional use and using high quality components. Constructed using solid stainless steel contract cases found on numerous popular models from the time, these watches have all the looks and functionality you could ever want.
Fitted in its 37mm case is a matte black 'reverse panda' dial, with twin subsidiary dials in white. With a closer inspection, you will observe ornate details such as diamond shaped plot of luminescent material on the seconds hand and an arrow-shaped luminous hand for its 45-minute register. Wedge-shaped plots of lume are evident on the hour indices, and a bi-directional bezel allows for convenient 60 minute timing capability.
If you're attracted to the 'underdogs' of the vintage dive watch market, you just found a winner - all the looks without the price tag to match. Dive in!
The Story
Rotary was founded in 1895 out of Switzerland. Beginning in the 1920s, Rotary established a great relationship with the British market that later fostered a contract in the 1940s which deemed the swiss firm to be the official supplier for the British Army. The company is best known for producing diving chronographs. In 2006, Rotary was considered a "superbrand" by the United Kingdom, which is an honor for any company to receive. Despite still producing watches to this day, the contemporary iterations from Rotary don't have the same charm as they once did.
