Why We Love it

Why We Love it
–Mid-century chronographs are — categorically — lovely, lovely things.
With balanced case sizes and dials that perfectly match the horological prowess required to build such complicated movements in smaller, thinner packages, we’d argue there’s a lot modern watchmaking can learn from the watchmakers of yesteryear. And when it comes to the golden age of chronographs, Angelus is one of the great insider names: a brand that has been producing in-house calibres since 1925, and one whose mid-century output is finally getting the attention it has always deserved.
This Angelus chronograph, powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber 215, is a perfect example of why collectors are circling. In a world where many famous names relied on outsourced chronograph movements, Angelus did the hard thing—and did it beautifully.
The movement is the living, beating heart of any vintage watch, and with brands like Angelus, it’s also the reason these pieces carry real substance beyond aesthetics.
Speaking of aesthetics: the silver-tone dial is a study in understated elegance, with crisp black and red printed scales, a contrasting blue handset, elegantly balanced sub-dials, and classic Arabic numerals. The anti-magnetic steel case is paired with a simple grey leather strap, it’s equal parts instrument and dress watch—technical, refined, and endlessly wearable.
Pieces such as this Angelus are big on looks, big on horological chops, and low on cost of entry.
For now…
Brand Story

Brand Story
+By the 1920s, Angelus was pioneering the manufacture of chronographs, beginning with beautifully crafted monopusher movements that set the stage for its reputation as a true movement maker. Over the ensuing decades, the brand continued to push boundaries — launching world-first complications like the Chronodate (1942), the earliest series chronograph with integrated calendar, and producing remarkable multi-function instruments that blended utility and artistry.
Throughout the mid-century, Angelus chronographs and complex wristwatches earned admiration among connoisseurs, prized both for their mechanical excellence and expressive dials. After a period of dormancy, the brand was revived in the 2010s under new stewardship, returning to its roots with in-house design, manufacture, and assembly that upholds its legacy of bold engineering and Swiss watchmaking savoir-faire.
