Why We Love it
–If you’re tired of the same old, vintage-inspired watch designs, then we have something special for you…
Alexander Shorokhoff, a Moscow-born student of civil engineering and architecture, was sent to Germany in the early 1990s to learn about free-market economies following the fall of the Soviet Union. After establishing a sales arm for Russian watch manufacturer Poljot, he subsequently set up his own watchmaking business in Alzenau, Germany. Today, he manufactures his own avant garde designs under the ‘Alexander Shorokhoff’ name.
The Byzantium honors the history and splendor of Istanbul, called Byzantium upon its establishment by the ancient Doric Greeks in the 7th century B.C. Housed in a 39mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished, stepped bezel, it features a grey dial engraved with Doric Greek inscriptions, Islamic-inspired calligraphy, a Christian cross, diamond quadrant indices, a blued steel ‘spade’ handset, and a date window at 6 o’clock. Powered by the automatic ETA 2824-2 movement with 38 hours of power reserve, it comes paired to a signed, black leather strap with a signed, stainless steel pin buckle.
Accompanied by its factory goodies, this timepiece is half-watch, half-work of art. You know what we’re gonna say:
Don’t sleep on it!
Brand Story

Brand Story
+A relatively small and nimble company, MB&F crafts kinetic sculptures in partnership with some of the most learned minds in watchmaking, including Stephen McDonnell, Kari Voutilainen, L’Epée, and others, the results of which are breathtaking. Certain of these works are displayed in the company’s “M.A.D. Galleries” (“mechanical art devices”) around the world, allowing buyers, potential customers, and others to view the firm’s groundbreaking horological art in a nontraditional setting.
MB&F and its creations have been awarded by the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève — the “Oscars” of the watch world — in recognition of the firm’s creativity, spirit, and watchmaking accomplishment. Truly, there are few companies operating today whose wares can be considered as thought-provoking and innovative as those of Maximilian Büsser & Friends.
