Why We Love it

Why we love it

Earlier this year, Mido released a modernized homage to one of their most highly sought after -- and colorful -- vintage models: The Powerwind 1000 Reference 5907, known in collector circles as the 'Rainbow Diver'.

Renamed the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961, the model pays tribute to the original with a reimagined multi-colored dial with decompression scales, originally designed for use by skin divers. Presented in a beefed up case measuring in at 40.5mm, the tribute model also features an improved automatic movement with 80 hours of power reserve, a unidirectional dive timing bezel, sapphire crystal, and a variety of straps and bracelet options to round out the package.

This is without question one of the coolest reimagined heritage tribute models to ever hit the shelves - its easy to see why it sold out nearly immediately!

Here is a great opportunity to scoop one up in virtually unworn condition and get in on the retro-fantastic action!

The Story

We admit it, we do tend to get carried away pontificating about vintage watches.  Whether it is the history of a particular piece or some oft-forgotten sidenote in the development of a particular case design or movement, there are numerous elements to vintage timepieces that make them so desirable.  On the other hand, sometimes all it takes to get us excited about a particular timepiece are some killer looks.

With roots stretching back to 1918, the name Mido is a play on the Spanish phrase Yo mido - I measure.

The brand designed a host of interesting designs throughout the mid-20th Century, and even has some pretty impressive innovations in the industry, including anti-magnetic automatic wristwatches (the Mulitfort Collection) and monocoque case construction.

They even used a robot as their mascot... in 1939.

Seriously, pretty cool!
