Why We Love it

The Patek Philippe Nautilus is without question one of the great horological icons of the 1970s, and one of the most in-demand timepiece models on the planet.

Collectors and prospectors alike are clamoring to get their hands on what is arguably one of Genta's greatest watch designs, and with the discontinuation of the flagship Reference 5711 in steel, this continued rise in popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

Interestingly, most demand for Nautilus models is centered around Jumbo models in steel, something we can't fully wrap our heads around …

This midsize Nautilus, a Reference 3800, embodies all of the porthole-inspired character of its larger siblings, just with a slightly smaller 37mm case, and a two-tone configuration that is very much reminiscent of the 1980s. Outfitted with a matching two-tone integrated bracelet with a signed locking clasp, this piece features a luminous blue ‘teak’ sigma dial, a matching handset and a date indicator at 3 o’clock.

Powered by the maison’s self-winding Calibre 335SC movement, this piece is accompanied by an array of factory goods including its complete inner and outer box set, purchase receipt, and a letter from Thierry Stern to the original owner.

Some may say that smaller watches are back with a vengeance — we say they never left!

Brand Story

+
Patek Philippe.

Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few luxury brands in the world carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer. They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.

Of course for a brand that is steeped in heritage, we are told ‘You never actually own a Patek Philippe…”

Well, you know the rest.
