Longines is a brand that needs no introduction. It was a staple of the Swiss watchmaking industry throughout the 20th century. They are well-known for their broad assortment of models and designs, as well as their value proposition.
This particular timepiece, a Conquest Automatic, features a power reserve indicator on a unique inner-rotating dial display, as well as a date indicator at 12:00.
From a design and stylistic standpoint, the appearance of this particular piece is wildly striking. It features a beautiful silver sunburst dial with gold-toned applied hour markers and handset with center seconds, all housed in a 35mm stainless steel case with sharply faceted lugs. With a series of concentric rings highlighting its 'digital' power reserve indication, this is an incredibly beautiful and wildly cool piece.
Fitted with a signed crown and clasp, this piece is the perfect example of what Longines excels at: making a classically designed timepiece with quality components that adds up to much more than the sum of its parts.
The Story
Longines bears the distinction of producing the first chronograph wristwatch in 1913 followed by two decades later with the development of the flyback chronograph in 1936. Without the addition of another pusher to reset the chronograph, the chronograph simply could not be reset without stopping it first--until the flyback chronograph made that a reality.
From the 1930s to today, Longines has also produced a series of stunning and accessibly priced wristwatches with a variety of complications, a number of which have become incredibly hot on today's collector market.
