–Sure, Analog:Shift is a business built around the love of watches — mostly mechanical wristwatches.
But, in essence, it’s our love for timepieces and timekeeping in general that are the common themes throughout the items we procure. And that includes the love of clocks in general — pocket watches, travel clocks and more.
After all, in the couple hundred years before the First World War, personal timekeeping was all about the pocket watch, and before that, it was larger clocks that were front and center, horologically. We still believe a good clock — especially one that hails from the best design maison — deserves a place in any watch lover’s collection.
This particular piece, a Reference 651, is spectacular for several reasons: Most notable is its stainless steel construction, a rarity in vintage Patek Philippe production. Furthermore, its 45mm case is in spectacular condition, with a prominent 'onion' crown and a delicately curved bow.
Beneath its acrylic crystal, meanwhile, is a perfectly preserved white enamel dial with an engraved signature, a drilled silver outer minutes scales, and — most notably — a set of applied steel 'Breguet' numerals and a matching 'feuille' handset. Its hand-wound 17-ligne movement features a "PXP" marking, indicating that this watch was imported for sale in the U.S. market following its construction in the early 1940s.
In tremendous shape for its age, this rare and compelling timepiece is a testament to the enduring appeal of Patek Philippe's beautiful designs. Whether you wear it as intended or use is as a small clock on your desktop, its classic aesthetics and wonderful condition are sure to make you smile each time you set eyes on it.
