Why We Love it

For a brand so closely associated with tradition, Patek Philippe occasionally reminds us that it knows how to have a little fun.

The Calatrava has been the foundation of the Patek Philippe collection since 1932. Conceived during the Great Depression as a simpler, more accessible alternative to the manufacture's complicated watches, it became the definitive expression of the dress watch. Guided by Bauhaus principles and a philosophy of functional elegance, the Calatrava established a design language that continues to influence watchmaking nearly a century later.

Which is precisely why the Reference 6007G-011 is so intriguing.

While unmistakably a Calatrava, this modern interpretation pushes the collection into unfamiliar territory. Introduced in 2023 alongside sister references featuring red and yellow accents, the 6007G-011 brings a distinctly contemporary energy to one of watchmaking's most traditional canvases. The result is arguably the sportiest Calatrava in the current catalog.

Housed in a 40mm 18K white gold case, the watch pairs its polished surfaces and classic round profile with a surprisingly dynamic dial. The black ebony-toned center features a carbon-pattern motif that contrasts against a circular satin-brushed outer track, while electric blue accents animate the minute scale, seconds hand, and applied 'Arabic' numerals. White gold markers and hands filled with luminous material provide exceptional legibility, lending the watch an almost instrument-like character.

Inside beats the automatic Caliber 26-330 S C, visible through the sapphire caseback and finished to the exacting standards one expects from Patek Philippe. While the movement remains thoroughly traditional, the watch surrounding it feels refreshingly contemporary.

Fitted to a black calfskin strap embossed with a carbon-style texture and accented by blue stitching, the package is completed by an 18K white gold pin buckle. Accompanied by its inner and outer boxes, signed leather folio, books, and Certificate of Origin, this example offers the full ownership experience.

The Calatrava may have started life as the ultimate dress watch. The 6007G-011 proves it can still surprise us. This reference is what happens when Patek Philippe loosens its tie, but never compromises its standards.

Brand Story

+
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few international luxury brands carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer. They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

From the simple elegance of their Calatrava line to the stunning study in miniaturization that is reference 1518 perpetual calendar to the modern reference 5750P chiming watch, Patek’s catalog is chock full of some of the most elegant and complicated timepieces ever made. Family-owned and completely independent, the firm has the freedom to do what it wants — such as discontinue one of the world’s most beloved steel luxury sport watches, the reference 5711 — when it wants.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.

Of course for a brand that is steeped in heritage, we are told “You never actually own a Patek Philippe…”

Well, you know the rest.
