Why We Love it

For a brand so closely associated with tradition, Patek Philippe occasionally produces a watch that reminds us it has one eye firmly on the future.

The Calatrava has served as the cornerstone of the Patek Philippe collection since 1932. Created during the economic uncertainty of the Great Depression, it distilled the manufacture's values into their purest form: elegance, restraint, and impeccable proportion. Nearly a century later, it remains the benchmark against which all dress watches are measured.

Which is precisely why the Reference 6007G-001 feels so unexpected.

Introduced in 2023 as part of a trio of boldly accented Calatravas, the 6007G-001 takes one of watchmaking's most traditional designs and injects it with a dose of contemporary energy. While the case and overall architecture remain unmistakably Calatrava, the details tell a different story—one that feels inspired by performance, precision, and modern design.

Housed in a 40mm 18K white gold case, the watch combines polished surfaces and classical proportions with a striking dial unlike anything else in the Calatrava family. The ebony-black center features a carbon-pattern motif, surrounded by a circular satin-brushed outer track that creates depth and visual texture. Bright yellow accents energize the composition, highlighting the minute track, central seconds hand, and applied 'Arabic' numerals. The effect is dynamic without becoming loud—a difficult balance that Patek manages with remarkable confidence.

White gold hands and luminous markers ensure excellent legibility, while the sporty dial treatment gives the watch a distinctly contemporary character rarely seen from the Genevan manufacture.

Inside beats the automatic Caliber 26-330 S C, visible through the sapphire caseback and finished to the exacting standards collectors expect from Patek Philippe. Traditional craftsmanship remains at the heart of the watch, even as the aesthetics venture into new territory.

The watch is fitted to a black calfskin strap embossed with a carbon-style texture and accented by vibrant yellow stitching, secured by a signed 18K white gold pin buckle. Accompanied by its complete set, this Reference 6007G-001 represents one of the most distinctive and youthful Calatravas produced in recent years.

The Calatrava may have defined the dress watch. The 6007G-010 proves it doesn't have to live in the past, because even icons occasionally benefit from a shot of adrenaline.

Brand Story

+
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few international luxury brands carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer. They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

From the simple elegance of their Calatrava line to the stunning study in miniaturization that is reference 1518 perpetual calendar to the modern reference 5750P chiming watch, Patek’s catalog is chock full of some of the most elegant and complicated timepieces ever made. Family-owned and completely independent, the firm has the freedom to do what it wants — such as discontinue one of the world’s most beloved steel luxury sport watches, the reference 5711 — when it wants.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.
