This simple name recognition and model association is part of why Rolex is as successful as they are, and why so many of their watches set the bar for iconography in timepieces. With that said, it makes their "oddball" pieces all the more intriguing!

Enter The Yachtmaster.

This particular example, a Reference 116622, features a 40mm Oyster case with a matching Oyster bracelet, a platinum filled bi-directional rotating bezel, and a stunning Rhodium Chromalight dial with light blue accents and a matching handset.

Accompanied by its factory warranty card, this piece remains in excellent condition throughout and serves as an interesting alternative to a Submariner with a bit of added flair without sacrificing any of the daily-wearability and versatility of a Sub.

We think that these are pieces are overlooked by many, but their loss is your gain!

The Story

The Rolex Yachtmaster is a relatively recent addition to the pantheon of famous Rolex sports models.

Originally introduced in the early 1990s, the Yachtmaster was initially conceived as a high style, high lux accoutrement for the nautically-minded enthusiast. Roughly based on the Submariner sized Oyster case, the Yachtmaster sported more graceful lug contour, tone-on bezel insert, and more polished elements to the case and Oyster bracelet. The first generation model, Reference 16628, was produced exclusively in solid 18k yellow gold, and was offered with a variety of exotic dials, including gem-set mother of pearl.

A few years later in 1999, Rolex expanded the line to include a steel model with a platinum bezel assembly, a combination Rolex calls 'Rolesium'. Two-Tone Rolesor, Everrose, and white gold models followed and have proven extremely popular with collectors who want in on the Rolex experience but want something different than a Submariner or GMT-Master on their wrist.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0809/1255/products/AS05376_40921021_ROLEX_YACHTMASTER_116622-7.jpg?v=1640811510
