At the time, a 37.5mm wristwatch was absolutely massive, and who doesn’t love a rare, unique Rolex? These watches are incredibly rare, and a super clean example could fetch the better part of $10,000 at auction without much difficulty.

Now let’s talk about this piece. First the good news- all parts of the watch are completely original. The stainless case is in excellent condition, the Roman dial is intact with an honest patination, and the unusual blued steel hands are downright stunning.

Now the bad news. At some point in the past 80 years, some crafty watchmaker (possibly with an astigmatism and a box of crayons) took it upon himself to repair some of the numerals, probably after fading or possibly light damage from moisture. It’s important to make the distinction that the dial was not refinished, since all of the printing is original, but it was touched up with new paint overlay in some spots. Some of the numbers were left untouched, some were partially repainted and some were completely repainted- there’s a little bit of everything, and we admit it is more than a little odd.

So why are we offering this watch? Well, it’s an incredibly rare, beautiful Rolex with original parts - and has a hell of a lot of character . Obviously the dial isn’t for everyone, but if you’re looking for a piece that you’re guaranteed not so see on anyone else’s wrist with an interesting story, you've come to the right place. It’s too bad that the dial has been monkeyed with, but we've priced it could accordingly.

You know how when some people look at a Picasso, they say “my kid could have painted that”? No, they couldn’t have, but this watch proves that they could have a future career as a watchmaker.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0809/1255/products/Rolex_Precision_HandDrawnNumerals_AS00924_Culture2.jpg?v=1433953063
