Pierre Cardin, a then-highly influential figure in womenswear who licensed his eponymous \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003emaison’s\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e name to all sorts of products, created a line of 26 androgynous timepieces cased in plastic and steel and powered by hand-wound movements from Jaeger. Unlike contemporary pieces from the likes of Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe — which were often cased in precious metals — these funky watches remain highly affordable.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThis particular Pierre Cardin Espace is housed in a 33mm oblong, stainless steel case with polished flanks, a signed crown, an acrylic crystal, and a polished, gold-plated bezel. It features a brushed champagne dial with applied, circular foil indices at the cardinal positions and a gold-toned ‘baton’ handset. Superbly funky, it’s most certainly — and visibly — a product of the 1970s.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003ePowered by the manually wound FHF36 movement from \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eFabrique d'Horlogerie Fontainemelon, a Swiss ébauché manufacturer that was eventually subsumed into ETA in 1985, it bears the ‘Jaeger’ signature on its caseback, attesting to its French — rather than Swiss — origins.
