Why We Love it

For most of its existence, Piaget operated quietly behind the proverbial horology curtain, producing some of the most lauded mechanical movements in Switzerland.

But when the Piaget name was displayed on the dial, the brand embodied a distinguishable lavish style that became synonymous with a period of opulence, representative of the American dream in the 1960s and 70s, as well as those wore it –– Andy Warhol, Roger Moore, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elvis Presley, and many more.

This particular Piaget, a Reference 9200, calls back to that era and features a 25mm, 18k white gold square case with ‘hobnail’ textured and lapis-inlaid bezel. The dial, also clad in lapis, features a matching ‘dauphine’ handset and the stylized Piaget signature positioned at the dial’s center. It is appropriately fitted to a black leather strap and is powered by a manual-winding movement.

Piaget is regarded as a master of ultra-thin watchmaking, and this piece joins that expertise with fine haute-joaillerie acumen.

Chef's kiss.

Brand Story

+
Piaget is perhaps the foremost player in ultra-thin watches and watch movements in the world. Established in 1874 in Geneva and currently under the Richemont Group umbrella, the maison began producing wristwatch movements in 1911, manufacturing the Calibre 9P, its first ultra-thin, hand-wound mechanical movement, in 1957.

In 1960, Piaget released the Calibre 12P, the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time, at just 2.3mm. It fitted many of its miniature movements into innovative timepieces hidden in coins, brooches, and cufflinks, becoming known equally for its jewelry.

The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate, released as a concept in 2018, became a full production model in 2020. At just 2mm thick, it took the record for thinnest watch on Earth. Today, Piaget continues to innovate in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking, creating ultra-thin tourbillons, retrograde movements, and more.
